While stationed at Ft. Lewis, Washington, Glenn Anderson's gospel quartet rehearsed about twice a week until their first performance at a Baptist church. The quartet was organized by Chaplain John Abbott, a Baptist minister from Texas. Quartet members included SGT Anderson, CPL Ladig, PVT Zenk, and CPL Schroff. PFC Bell, Chaplain Abbott’s assistant, served as piano accompanist. On 16 August 1943, the quartet recorded eight selections while singing on the air at radio station KOL in Seattle. Five days later, Chaplain Abbott delivered glass records ($1.75 each) from the radio station. Glenn built a wood crate, packed the records carefully in excelsior (wood shavings), and shipped them home to St. Charles. Two weeks later he was reassigned to Supply Depot G-47 in southern England to prepare for Operation Overlord (D-Day).
